You’ve probably heard advice about drinking up to seven or eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day. Chances are you’ve gotten by on less than that, so it’s no big deal, right? Well, while it is true that you can survive on less than those seven cool glasses, you could be setting yourself up for some problems down the line. Water is a critical component to all life on earth, and humans, being greatly composed of the stuff, are no exception, here are some good reasons to drink water when you wake, and keep at it throughout your day.
7. It Jump Starts Your Metabolism
Drinking water in the morning can help your metabolism get off to a great start. In fact, according to research, drinking 16 ounces of water (that’s about two glasses) can create measurable metabolic increases in a matter of ten minutes. After a half hour to an hour, these metabolic rates will peak at about a 30% increase! You may not think that’s a big deal, but a higher metabolic rate means more energy, which is great if you have trouble getting out of bed in the morning. It also means you’ll be better able to burn fat, so drink up!
6. Morning Dehydration When You Wake Up
You’ve probably heard that it’s important to drink water throughout your day. This is true, and easy enough when you put your mind to it. But what about when you’re sleeping? Your body will dry out overnight. This is worse if you snore, which leaves your mouth open, causing your body to dry out faster. Loss of hydration overnight isn’t a huge deal, as long as you get a drink of water soon in the morning. It will help you feel more refreshed, certainly, and can make you alert if you decide to add some lemon to your morning water.
