Most people will reach for a standard lotion or moisturize, but it is better for your skin to opt for a natural remedy. Dermatologists often recommend natural oils and remedies since they are pure and don’t have any added ingredients in them. Also, over the counter remedies will contain alcohol and fragrances that can cause irritation or an allergic reaction. When it comes to skin and beauty care, keeping it simple is a good idea for long-term preservation and protection. Here we list the top seven natural remedies for nurturing dry skin.

7. Olive Oil Cleanser

The most effective home-made avocado mask is to add half an avocado with a teaspoon of olive oil. If you want extra moisturizing effects add a tablespoon of honey. Your skin should feel supple and smooth, but you can also add a moisturizer on afterward for double the hydrating effect.

When you add olive oil to a sugar scrub, you make a moisturizer exfoliate that will remove all excess dead skin cells.  Add 4sps of fine brown sugar and 1 tbsps with honey to 2 tbsps of olive oil to make a paste. Dab a thin layer of extra virgin olive oil on your skin and cub in a circular motion for a few minutes. Take a shower to rinse off with warm water. Your skin should feel smooth and soft all over.

Oatmeal is a great exfoliator or face mask since it will remove dead skin cells and re-hydrate the skin. Oat is a very soothing product because it will help your skin retain moisture. Add a cup of oatmeal to a warm bath and take a soak for 15 to 20 minutes. You can also make an oatmeal honey mask by mixing two tablespoons of oats with one tablespoon of honey and a little water. Warm up this mixture and rub onto your skin. You can either wash it off right away or leave it for 15 to 20 minutes for a hydrating mask.

Plain Yogurt is an excellent skin-hydrating agent since the lactic acid in yogurt will dissolve dead skin and tighten your pores. Plain yogurt is also an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory which helps soothe itchy and dry skin. For the best yogurt mask for dry skin mix ½ cup of yogurt with a few drops of honey and 3 tbsp. of mashed papaya. Add a few drops of lemon and mix all together. Leave on dry skin for 10 to 15 minutes and wash off with cold water when you are done. Do this once a week for best results.

Milk cream is great for re-hydrating the skin since it also has lactic acid which will exfoliate dry skin. The soothing nature of milk will also preserve the pH levels of skin making it great for moisturizing. For the best results add a few drops of lemon juice, one teaspoon of milk and two teaspoons of milk cream in a bowl. Rub this all over your hands and legs right before you shower and wash it off with warm water. Do this once a day or as often as necessary.

Coconut oil is great for treating dry skin since it has a good amount of fatty acids that add moisture to the skin. For the best home remedy liberally apply warm (not solid) coconut oil on your skin before you go to sleep and wash it off in the morning. You can also apply coconut oil to your dry skin after you shower or take a bath. When your skin is supple from your bath, the oil is more easily absorbed. You can do this every day or as often as needed for soft and sleek skin.
