Most people have a complicated relationship with treadmills; they hate them but they also need them. Running on a treadmill can be boring after a while if you don’t have something to spice it up every now and then. Try these four tips below to see how you can easily change your running routine and make sure you don’t skip the treadmill on your workouts.

Interval Workouts

Intervals are a great way to switch up running at a constant pace. You can start with one minute of easy segments followed by five minutes of faster running with more inclines. You can decide which pace and which sets to focus on. Try to have two minutes of hard running and two minutes of easy running followed eventually by a five minute cool down period.

Bring a Friend with You

Having a friend to workout with you is a great asset in your fitness routine! If you and your friend belong to the same gym, you can get them to run next to you on the treadmill. You can use each other as motivating factors to keep running as well as provide a friendly distraction from the monotony of running. You don’t have to stay at the same pace, so even if you and your friend aren’t at the same running stamina you can still enjoy each other’s company.

Get Your Groove on

listening to music

Use your headphones while running on the treadmill as a way to combat boredom and even run longer. Choose upbeat motivating songs that you like to get you going even longer. You can jam out to the music while running; you may even forget that you hated the treadmill in the first place.

Watch TV or Netflix

If you belong to a gym, there is a chance that there will be TV’s displayed above the treadmill that will allow you to plug in your headphones and listen via certain channels. However, if you don’t have TV’s you can stream Netflix or Amazon on your iPhone or iPad and zone out with your headphones. Watching TV is a fast way to breeze through miles while staying entertained.
