Constipation

Most individuals suffer from occasional bouts of constipation or difficulty passing stool. Constipation causes stomach pain, discomfort, and bloating. When constipated, you may find yourself spending way too much time in the bathroom. Straining to pass hard or sharp bowel movements can lead to hernias and rectal scratches or tears. Chronic constipation is when you frequently experience stools that are painful or difficult to pass or have fewer than three bowel movements each week. Contact your doctor if you suffer from this condition. When you are constipated, several items can make the problem worse.

12. Processed Foods

Processed foods are high in sugar, salt, and chemical additives. Meanwhile, they are low in the nutrients and dietary fiber necessary for good digestive health. Avoid eating processed foods like hot dogs, prepackaged snacks, and chips while you are suffering from constipation. Instead, consume a diet rich in fiber. Fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, and dried fruits are all excellent sources of the fiber you need to keep food moving regularly through your intestinal tract. You can add bran to cereal and homemade baked goods in order to increase your fiber intake as well.

11. Inactivity

While you may not feel like being active while suffering from constipation, don’t give in to the desire to be a couch potato. Moving and exercising your body can help get your digestive tract moving again. If you don’t exercise regularly, start with a 10 or 15-minute walk around the block. On the other hand, if exercise is already a part of your daily routine, step it up and get out for a jog, run, or swim. After a meal, wait about an hour for your food to begin to digest before getting out and engaging in physical exertion.
