16. Leaving Contact Lenses in Overnight
After a long day, it may be tempting to fall into bed without removing your contact lenses. Or, you may feel yourself succumbing to sleep while reading a book or watching television with your lenses still in place. However, the Cleveland Clinic warns that sleeping with contact lenses in can put your eyes at risk of infection. Furthermore, even lenses marketed as being safe for sleep can cause irritation to the delicate tissues of the eye. To preserve your vision, avoid sleeping or swimming with your contact lenses in. Additionally, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for cleaning and switching out your lenses.
15. Forgetting to Floss
Good oral hygiene includes brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing at least once daily. Neglecting either of these tasks increases your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. In turn, these conditions can affect your overall health. You may feel that brushing alone keeps your teeth squeaky clean. However, particles of food may become trapped between your teeth. Floss is the ideal tool for removing these particles and clearing plaque from between your teeth. To make flossing seem like less of a chore, keep a spool of floss next to your favorite chair so you can floss while watching television.
