A general rule of thumb is that you should aspire to have very clear urine. Having colored urine may be indicative of other problems that are occurring in your body. Water helps flush out toxins in the body and by not drinking enough, the toxins are forced to stay for much longer. Yellow or brown urine is usually an easy way to tell if you are dehydrated, and can be offset by drinking many glasses of water throughout the day. Another thing to monitor is how often you have to use the bathroom, as only going a few times a day could also be a sign of dehydration.

Naturally, when you are hungry, you think of getting something to eat. Surprisingly, an actual meal may not be what your body is truly craving. When you are dehydrated, the signal for thirst can be confused with the signal for hunger, as the signals for both are created by the same part of the brain. Try drinking a glass or two of water before you finally sit down to eat that sandwich. If you are still hungry afterward, you will know if it was thirst or hunger.

While high blood pressure could be caused by a lack of exercise, poor food choices, or just bad genetics, it can also be caused by dehydration. A lack of water in the bloodstream can cause your body to create thicker blood cells. These thick blood cells move slowly throughout the body and retain a very high sodium content. It is important to have free-flowing blood because having high blood pressure can lead to many other problems down the road, many of which result in death.
