Walmart Closures

Since the beginning of the pandemic and still today, Walmart stores have been closed at night for cleaning purposes.

“It’s proven helpful, as it gives our associates more time to do enhanced cleaning and restock shelves for our customers,” Dacona Smith, Walmart’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, said.

To take the safety precautions a step further, Walmart has shut down selected stores across the U.S. for a couple of days to allow third-party cleaning crews to sanitize buildings more thoroughly.

Walmart stores in the following places have reported temporary closures in the past month:

  • Springdale, Arkansas
  • Hartford, Connecticut
  • Butte, Montana
  • Chickasha, Oklahoma
  • Beckley, West Virginia

Many people depend on Walmart for their shopping, so these closures are an inconvenience to them.

“They could’ve warned us a little bit,” Arkansas resident Alan Bailey said, “we shop at Walmart here every day… this is going to hurt this little town.”

It may be frustrating to find out your local Walmart is temporarily closing during the holiday season. But it is important to stay safe while shopping, and Walmart is making that easier for its customers.
