6. Breathlessness and Lung Damage


The COVID-19 virus causes respiratory illness. A common symptom of this viral infection is feeling short of breath. Unfortunately, that symptom could continue. Depending on the severity of the infection, some people may end up with long-term breathlessness and lung damage.

It’s extremely important to be monitored by a doctor if breathlessness continues after coronavirus recovery. Difficulty breathing could be a sign of pneumonia, where the air sacs in your lungs are filling with fluid. Pneumonia can be life-threatening. Prolonged breathlessness could also be a sign of other severe conditions like acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) or sepsis. All of these conditions could lead to permanent lung damage or death.
