Flip flops are an iconic summertime shoe choice. People love going to the beach in the light sandals, but you might be surprised to learn that you should stop wearing flip flops immediately! Flip flips might seem comfortable and convenient, but they should never be your daily footwear.
10. Ankle Injuries Can Happen
Rubber flip flops might be great for sand, but if you wear them all day you could put yourself at risk of a serious ankle sprain or injury. Your feet slide around in flip flops. You have no support, so your foot starts to turn towards your body instead of maintaining a straight form.
With your foot turns inward, you are at a greater risk of tripping over things. In addition, the lack of support also makes you stumble as you try to maintain your balance. You can easily twist your ankle in or out.
9. Foot Inflammation
Without proper arch support, your feet can become inflamed. The band of tissue that runs along your foot arch will start to stretch and the tissue inflames. Your arch will turn red and hurt. The condition is known as plantar fasciitis. Every time you take a step down, your foot hurts.
The pain is often excruciating and makes it difficult to even walk or function. You can take over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen. Also, exercise, physical therapy, and cortisone injections might help bring some much-needed relief.
