Leaving an egg in the shell before boiling in the microwave carries a risk of exploding the egg all over your appliance during cooking. However, if you’re willing to experiment, you can boil eggs right in their shell. To do so, first, choose a bowl deep enough to keep the egg submerged when the bowl is filled with water. Add water and microwave on high for about 3 minutes. Next, prick the bottom of the shell of a whole egg to prevent an egg explosion. Set the egg into the bowl of heated water, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave at the 50% temperature setting for 4 minutes. For a hard-boiled egg, allow the egg to remain in the hot water for an additional 2 minutes before peeling and enjoying.

Epicurious shares a recipe for a Microwave Egg Sandwich with Cheddar and Avocado that can be prepared in just 5 minutes. This recipe utilizes two eggs cooked up in minutes in the microwave. The eggs are then sandwiched between two slices of toast, an English muffin, biscuit or roll. Additional ingredients needed include salt, pepper, cheddar cheese, avocado, and a dash of hot sauce.

3. Coffee Mug Quiche

Elizabeth from Bowl of Delicious has a great recipe for 5 Minute Spinach and Cheddar Microwave Quiche in a Mug. This recipe calls for ½ cup of fresh spinach, 1 egg, 1/3 cup of milk, 1/3 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 optional slice of cooked bacon, salt, and pepper. The spinach is first steamed in the microwave and then combined with the other ingredients and cooked up into a delicious quiche in less than 5 minutes.

This is another recipe that has endless options limited only by your creativity. Add cooked sausage, bacon, black olives, peppers, black beans, or whatever tempts your taste buds.
