Mosquito Bite

Humans aren’t the only creatures who enjoy the great outdoors in the summertime. Pesky mosquitoes can put a real damper on summer fun, especially if you feel like you are a mosquito magnet. Fortunately, there are a few tips and tricks you can use to ward off the little bloodthirsty pests. Try the following hints to help prevent attracting mosquitoes and avoid the aggravation of itchy, red bug bites.

11. Avoid Prime Mosquito Hours

Mosquito Hours

If you can, avoid being outside during the hours that mosquitoes favor. According to Terminix, different species of mosquitoes prefer different times of the day. Some species are more aggressive during the early morning and late afternoon. Others favor the evening hours, beginning at dusk. You may find you spend less time swatting away mosquitoes if you avoid spending the majority of your time outside in the early morning and at nightfall. You may be less likely to experience mosquito bites during the parts of the day when the sun is highest and there is a breeze.

10. Remove Standing Water from Your Yard

Standing Water

To prevent mosquitoes from taking up residence in your yard, clear your grounds of any standing water. Dump out bird baths, empty kiddie pools after use, and make sure no there are no toys or decorative items sitting out and collecting water. In addition to water, mosquitoes may hide among piles of wet leaves or discarded debris. Clear any trash or forgotten equipment from your property to discourage mosquitoes from moving in. Additionally, check to make sure that your water spigots aren’t leaking and luring pesky winged insects.
