Ants

Once the warm days of summer hit, ants may start marching through your house. If so, you may think of heading to the local hardware store for some heavy-duty ant killer to drive them off. However, the thought of spreading poison throughout your house may make you feel ill. In that case, you may want to try giving ants the boot with common items you already have in your home. Check out these ideas for ridding your house of ants without purchasing insecticide.

13. Baking Soda

baking soda

While humans enjoy the effects of baking soda in baked goods, this ingredient does not make a pleasurable snack for ants. It is thought that baking soda is poisonous to ants when they ingest it. Ants are not attracted to plain baking soda, so you will need to mix it with sugar to attract the ants and entice them to chow down.

12. Chalk

Chalk

Some ants are repelled by the chalk your kids use to make sidewalk art in the summer. This powdery residue may interfere with the ant’s sense of smell, causing him to avoid crossing the chalky barrier. However, you will need an unbroken line of chalky powder in order to prevent ants from making their way around this border of defense.
