Carrots are found in almost every diet for cancer patients, as certain compounds present in carrots can make chemotherapy more effective by stopping a mechanism in the body that can interfere with cancer treatments, according to a 2014 study by the New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research. Researchers hope these foods “could be used to complement conventional treatments to potentially deliver better results for patients,” said senior scientist Arjan Scheepens, PhD.
9. Gravy Combats Dry Mouth
A common side effect of chemotherapy is dry mouth, which can make swallowing difficult. Try moistening your food by covering it with sauces, gravies or even low-fat milk. Liquefying foods in a blender can also help your meal go down easier.
