Fiber Supplements

A dizzying array of supplements claim to improve your health and boost your immunity naturally. Many of the supplements that line pharmacy shelves contain natural ingredients. However, it is essential to remember that natural does not necessarily mean safe. Furthermore, the National Institutes of Health warns that dietary supplements that make medical claims must also contain certain words. Required words include the phrase, “This statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.”

A supplement containing red yeast rice may be effective for lowering cholesterol. However, the National Institutes of Health lists several warnings about this potent substance.
