The idea of swallowing a pill that will give your metabolism an extra boost is an appealing one. Supplements with familiar names of vitamins you know your body needs sound safe and healthful. Vitamin B-12 is a water-soluble vitamin important for nervous system function and formation of red blood cells. This vitamin does play a role in converting amino acids into usable energy. Nonetheless, there is no substantial evidence that vitamin B-12 injections will enhance weight loss. Some weight loss programs or clinics encourage supplementation with vitamin B-12. However, the Mayo Clinic asserts that these supplements are not likely to increase energy or metabolism in individuals with adequate levels of the vitamin. A healthy diet that includes eggs, dairy, fatty fish like salmon, or B-12 fortified cereals will nourish your body and provide sufficient amounts of this vitamin.
