Eat Fish

A simple dietary inclusion can improve your sleep and boost your intellect. In 2017, new research studies revealed how important it is to get adequate, sound sleep for good health. Results from these studies indicated that coffee naps and even the simple act of cracking open a window at night can help you get a good night’s rest.

Sleep Benefits of Fish in Your Diet

Sleep Benefits

A University of Pennsylvania study has identified another way to get sound sleep. The study says that eating fish can help you sleep better and improve your intellect, which creates all-around benefits for the body and mind.

This research was published in the journal Scientific Reports and was carried out in China. The study involved a set of questions given to 541 children. This group was comprised of 54 percent boys and 46 percent girls between 9 and 11 years of age. The children were asked how often they had eaten fish in the past month, with the answers ranging from “never” to “at least once a week.”

These answers were then compared to the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, which is an IQ test used in China. The parents’ response to the sleep quality of these children, which was tested via the Children Sleep Habits Questionnaires, was also compared to the responses.

Furthermore, the researchers accounted for attributes such as parents’ education levels and marital status. This comprehensive analysis led researchers to identify that children who ate fish on a regular basis scored 4.8 points higher on IQ tests than the children who ate fish sparingly. Children who ate fish occasionally scored 3.3 points higher than those that did not consume fish at all. Additionally, researchers found that regular fish eaters woke up less frequently at night and enjoyed a more restful sleep.

The Power of Omega-3

Omega 3

Ongoing research validates that the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and seafood have significant health benefits. In fact, people residing in the “Blue Zones”, places where people routinely live more than 90 years, consume a Mediterranean diet that contains a lot of seafood. Omega-3 has been proven to be beneficial in reducing antisocial behavior and ADHD, depression, Alzheimer’s disease, etc. Eating fish can help you stay more alert as you age. You cannot say the same for cheese pizza, soda, potato chips, hamburgers without any onions or tomatoes, and so on. You have to eat right!
