  • Long-chain omega-3 fatty acids: There are eicosatetraenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are commonly found in algae oil, seafood, and algae. Your body can produce DHA and EPA, so they are not considered essential. However, in humans, the conversion is difficult, so your body only manages to turn two to 10 percent of ALA into DHA or EPA.

Overweight people appear to suffer from an increase of firmicutes and have far fewer Bacteroidetes. Taking probiotics can help balance this out.

The bacteria in your digestive tract work to break down the fiber that your body consumes for easier digestion. Once broken down, it is transformed into butyrate, which is a beneficial short-chain fatty acid.

Increasing your probiotic intake also appears to improve insulin resistance while balancing your triglyceride and cholesterol levels. Focusing on taking a probiotic supplement for 12 weeks also appears to have a significant and positive impact on your weight loss efforts.
