4. What Is Matcha Tea?
Originating mainly from East Asia, matcha is a specific type of shade-grown green tea that is ground into a fine powder before using. The freshest and best-tasting matcha tea powders are a bright light green color, made from young leaves.
Matcha teas are typically grouped into two categories – culinary matcha and ceremonial matcha. Culinary matcha is used for baking and cooking. Ceremonial matcha is what you use when making tea to drink. Iced matcha and matcha lattes have become a popular form of ceremonial tea, available at many tea and coffee houses offering specialty beverages.
3. Matcha Antioxidants
Regular green tea is packed with loads of antioxidants, particularly a catechin called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) that protects cells from attack and damage. Matcha tea contains around 140 times more EGCG than regular green tea. No wonder matcha is the number one kind of tea to drink every day with all those antioxidants guarding our cells.
How does matcha fight cancer? Apparently, all those catechins make matcha a powerful suppressor of cancerous tumors and great at repairing DNA damage. Antioxidant-rich matcha might also be helpful for decreasing liver disease risk.
